Product Description

Impressive very high quality Native American Navajo style handmade pin featuring an incredible high grade Bisbee Blue turquoise by one of the best contemporary artists we have seen today, Art Tafoya. Art is actually Pueblo however has spent 35 years mastering Navajo style jewelry that is greatly inspired by Fred Peshlakai. We actually have a nick name for Art. We call him the "Stamp Master". He is not just amazing at creating wonderful design with his stamps, he also hand makes each and everyone of his stamps just like they did during the early days. There are only a handful of artists today if any that actually make their own stamps.

As you can see the influence of Fred Peshlakai in all his pieces. He studied with Fred's nephew and student Carlos White Eagle, who taught him the importance of using high quality turquoise and the important of developing his own individual style which is clearly seen here. Art was telling me that whenever his doubts something he has made he asks himself if Fred would approve and if not, he scraps it and starts again.

We have seen a lot of "old style" jewelry but I have to say, very little of it can hold a candle to Art Tafoya's work. We met Art basically on accident and I fell in love with his beautifully crafted and traditionally designed jewelry as well as the man himself.
